Sweet Valley Recap: Books 21-30, +SE 1-4 of SVH

15 Jul

Books 21-30 and Super Editions 1-4 offered a lot to analyze and laugh at.  Let’s revisit some of the highlights:

Time Elapsed: About 42 weeks (110 weeks total)

Major School Events:

  • There are several dances, including a Cheerleader Rocking Chair Relay dance, a Christmas dance, and a Friday the 13th dance.
  • Todd Wilkins moves away and Amy Sutton moves back.
  • School is out for summer TWICE
  • The school goes on spring break
  • Pi Beta Alpha holds another pledge round.
  • Sweet Valley celebrates its centennial with a huge football game and picnic
  • There is a talent show

Major Wakefield Family Events:

  • Jessica almost runs away to San Francisco
  • The twins go on a bike trip up the coast
  • The twins get jobs in Malibu as mother’s helpers
  • Grandma and Grandpa Wakefield visit for 3 weeks
  • The twins to go France on spring break
  • Todd and Liz break up amicably
  • Suzanne Devlin visits again
  • Steven and Cara Walker begin dating
  • Steven almost drops out of college but doesn’t

By the Numbers:

  • # of guys Jessica dates: 4
  • # of guys Elizabeth dates: 2
  • # of life-threatening situations: at least 6  (2 car crashes, kidnapping, Malibu storms, capsized sailboat, bear attack)
  • # of dances: 4
  • # of parties: 7
  • # of mysterious medical conditions: 1 (poor Suzy Devlin)

At this point in the series, continuity seems to have gone out the window.  There’s been a Christmas, a spring break, and two summers.  I can’t wait to see what happens next!
