Sweet Valley Recap: Books 21-30, +SE 1-4 of SVH

Books 21-30 and Super Editions 1-4 offered a lot to analyze and laugh at.  Let’s revisit some of the highlights:

  • There are several dances, including a Cheerleader Rocking Chair Relay dance, a Christmas dance, and a Friday the 13th dance.
  • Todd Wilkins moves away and Amy Sutton moves back.
  • School is out for summer TWICE
  • The school goes on spring break
  • Pi Beta Alpha holds another pledge round.
  • Sweet Valley celebrates its centennial with a huge football game and picnic
  • There is a talent show

Major Wakefield Family Events:

  • Jessica almost runs away to San Francisco
  • The twins go on a bike trip up the coast
  • The twins get jobs in Malibu as mother’s helpers
  • Grandma and Grandpa Wakefield visit for 3 weeks
  • The twins to go France on spring break
  • Todd and Liz break up amicably
  • Suzanne Devlin visits again
  • Steven and Cara Walker begin dating
  • Steven almost drops out of college but doesn’t

Another 10 books down, another slew of drama and intrigue.  Let’s take a look at what’s happened in books 11-20, shall we?

  • There is a school dance (16)
  • Tina Ayala joins the Oracle staff as a photographer (19)

  • Suzanne Devlin comes to visit the family for two weeks, wreaks havoc (11)
  • In New York, Jessica is almost for-real raped by Pete McCafferty (11)
  • Jessica and Elizabeth volunteer at Fowler Memorial Hospital (12)
  • Elizabeth is kidnapped by Carl the Crazy Orderly (13)
  • The twins throw a party to celebrate Elizabeth’s safe return (13-14)
  • Elizabeth goes out with Nicholas Morrow and nearly loses Todd in the process (14)
  • Jessica changes her math grade and gets caught (14)
  • Elizabeth writes a play about Elizabeth Barrett Browning and wins a contest for it (17)
  • Jessica dates Jack Howard, gets held at knife point by him (19)

In a lot of ways, these books were more focused on personal dramas.  Not a lot happens at school, but with kidnappings, plane crashes, and psychopathic boyfriends who hide drugs in their bathrooms, who can blame the twins from being preoccupied enough to not focus on school?

The Story So Far: Books 1-10 of SVH

So much has happened in only ten books that I thought it might be reasonable to do a quick, by-the-numbers recap of what the twins have experienced so far.  It’s been quite the year for our girls Jessica and Elizabeth.  Let’s take a look:

Total Time Elapsed: About 44 weeks.

Major School Events:

  • Bi Beta Alpha held several induction ceremonies (1, 4)
  • Liz was revealed as the author of the “Eyes and Ears” column (1)
  • Sweet Valley Elected their Fall King and Queen in the form of Jessica Wakefield and Winston Egbert (2)
  • Jessica and Bruce Patman won a school-sponsored dance contest (3)
  • Sweet Valley’s football team won their Homecoming game and elected Robin Wilson Miss Sweet Valley High (4)
  • Jessica and Bill Chase starred in the SVH production of Splendor in the Grass (8)
  • Sweet Valley won the Bart Race for the first time in years, thanks to Roger Barrett (9)
  • The SVH cheerleaders held tryouts and Cara Walker, Annie Whitman, and Sandra Bacon joined the squad (10)

Major Wakefield Family Events

  • The twins suspect Mr. Wakefield is having an affair and are totally wrong (1)
  • Steven starts dating Tricia Martin (1)
